Students’ winter concerts start Monday

Laguna Beach students will celebrate the seasons with an instrumental and vocal show for the community.

Laguna Beach High School and Thurston Middle School will present a Winter Instrumental Concert with performances at 6 and 8 p.m. on Monday as well as a Winter Vocal Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the high school’s Artists Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

“I encourage our community members to attend these wonderful student performances,” said Supt. Sherine Smith, in a prepared statement. “Their talent is first rate and you won’t want to miss out.”

The high school and middle school students will come together at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20 for a Winter Vocal Concert directed by Roxanna Ward.

Thurston’s string ensemble, junior band and jazz band will perform at 6 p.m. The high school’s string ensemble, jazz band and wind ensemble will perform at 8 p.m.

The jazz bands, under the direction of Roger Shew, will perform music from the American songbook as well as original music from student composer Kenji Lee.

Instrumental Music Director Jeremy Chung will serve as conductor for the string and wind ensembles, and junior and concert bands.
