Jazz summer series kicking off

Laguna Beach Live! will launch its Jazz Wednesdays Summer Series on June 19.

First up is the Latin Jazz Syndicate from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hotel Laguna Rose Garden at 425 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The band, which has performed with Poncho Sanchez, Luis Miguel, Dave Valentin and others, is led by Bijon Watson on the trumpet.

Admission is $15 online and $18 at the door.

Free reception to exhibit artworks

Festival of Arts’ latest exhibit, titled “Preview 2013,” will be on display at Wells Fargo at 260 Ocean Ave. in Laguna Beach until June 22.

The venue will host a free reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, highlighting the photographs, paintings and sculptures on display.

“I am excited to welcome this new group of artists to the Festival of Arts,” Director of Exhibits, Education and Permanent Collections Ron Morrissette wrote in a release. “The quality of their work is outstanding and diverse. The show at Wells Fargo is an excellent sampling of what guests can expect to see this summer.”

“Preview 2013” features 11 new additions to the Festival of Arts lineup, which has now reached 140 exhibitors and includes Adam Amador, Antje Campbell Michael Harnish, Larry Marley and others.

Admission to the Wells Fargo building is possible 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Irvine artist has new show

ArtistEye Gallery, located at 1294 S. Coast Highway Unit A, Laguna Beach, will display work by Irvine-based artist Ehsan Khanaman through June 30.

A reception will be organized from 6 to 9 p.m. June 15, at which time the artist will be on hand to talk about his inspiration and aesthetic.

Final installment of “Catechism” series

The Laguna Playhouse revealed that the final installment of the “Catechism” series titled “Late Nite Catechism Las Vegas: Sister Rolls The Dice” will be onstage from Tuesday till June 23.

Guests can watch the play, written and performed by Maripat Donovan and directed by Mark Silvia, at 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

“We are so lucky to be rolling the dice again with our favorite Sister and our audiences will be rolling in the aisles with laughter with the always hilarious Maripat Donovan,” said Artistic Director Ann Wareham in a release.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (excluding June 16.) Additional performances will be at 2 p.m. Thursday and June 20 and 7 p.m. June 23.

Admission ranges from $35 to $65, and student and group discounts are available. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday and will be open till 8 p.m. on performance days.
