A 77-year old Laguna Beach woman suffered a fractured elbow after the car she was driving launched into the air and landed on its side Sunday along Laguna Canyon Road, police said.

Officers rescued Efy Shirazi from the Toyota Camry, which had slid to a stop at 4:47 p.m. in a commercial driveway at 2975 Laguna Canyon Road., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

Paramedics took Shirazi, who was the only one in the car at the time of the crash, to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for overnight observation, Callus said.

Shirazi was driving toward Laguna Beach on Laguna Canyon Road when she came to a curve in the road near the 2900 block, according to police. The road curved to the right, but Shirazi went straight and ran off it, police said.

The car hit a rock and went airborne, striking a water main and natural gas meter in front of a business, and slid to a stop on its right side in the driveway, Callus said.

No other cars were involved and police made no arrests, according to Callus.
