Little League: Lumberyard too much for UPS
Lumberyard got off to a fast start in its AAA Division game against UPS on a hot and windy Tuesday, and used that quick opening to take an 11-6 victory in Laguna Beach Little League action.
Lumberyard started strong getting four runs in the first inning, thanks to Chase Hall’s hard hit single that plated Noah Neufeld and Ben Kelly. UPS, however, came right back with four runs of its own in the bottom of the first. Aidan McDennon led off with a single and scored along with Lucas Jablon on Jax Laluotte’s two-run double.
Lumberyard jumped right back into the lead by scoring five more runs in the top of the second getting hits from Bryce Ford, Will Bonn and Hunter Baldwin, and UPS could never recover.
Kelly gave a strong pitching performance and got the win, and Bonn closed on the mound.

La Sirena Grill 9, Javier’s 8
In a battle for first place Saturday, La Sirena Grill edged Javier’s based on stellar pitching, outstanding fielding and clutch hitting.
Javier’s took the early lead by scoring four runs in the top of the first, thanks to singles by Gehrig Mackay (RBI, run scored), Hudson Saunders (run scored), Dylan McEachern (two for three, RBI, two runs, one inning pitched, one run, two strikeouts), and Mason Herr (two for two, run scored), and a two-run home run by Cole Curtis (two for two, two RBIs, run scored). Javier’s held La Sirena to one run in the first due to the strong pitching of Herr.
La Sirena fired back in the second inning.
After sending Javier’s down in order in the top-half of the inning, La Sirena came up with a five-run outburst propelled by the hitting of Luke Fetzer (two for two, two RBIs, run scored), Lucas Durand (two RBIs, run scored), Ryan Loughlin (single, run scored), Jackson Baldwin (two for two, RBI, three runs), and Cade Anderton (two for two, walk, two RBIs). The outburst gave La Sirena a 6-4 lead it would not relinquish.
La Sirena received a solid pitching performance from Anderton (three innings pitched, two strikeouts, no walks) followed by Ben Dawson (two innings, two runs, three strikeouts) who was tremendous in closing.
Another highlight for La Sirena was the performance of Baldwin who, despite being ill, had two hits, drove in a run and made at stellar play at shortstop.
Javier’s, a potent offensive team, had 11 hits but didn’t earn a walk until the fifth inning. The accuracy of La Sirena’s pitchers and the exceptional play of its defense (10 putouts) was the difference in the well-played game.
