Laguna All-Star teams ousted from tourneys

The season officially came to an end last weekend for All-Star teams from Laguna Beach Little League.

Three Laguna All-Star teams, the Little League (12-year-old), 10/11 and 9/10 squads, competed in District 55 All-Star Tournament elimination games and each was bumped from the double-elimination event.

The All-Star tournament ended Wednesday .

Below are final tournament results for the Laguna Beach All-Star teams.

Laguna Beach was eliminated from title contention July 3 after an 11-0 loss to Laguna Niguel at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo.

The division championship was won by host Aliso Viejo, which scored a 16-1 victory Saturday over Laguna Niguel in the division final.

Aliso Viejo will represent District 55 in the double-elimination Little League Section 10 Tournament it is hosting starting Saturday at Woodfield Park.

The 12-Year-Old All-Stars: Lance Detweiler, Ayrton Garcia, Jeremy Hayes, Brooks Hogenauer, Adam Kerfoot, Trey Lockhart, James Loughlin, Nick Lucas, Josh Meiswinkel, Charlie Pillsbury, Enzo Sanchez, Nolan Smith. 10/11 All-Stars

The All-Star season came to an end Saturday for the Laguna Beach 10/11 All-Star team. Laguna was eliminated from the double-elimination tournament after a 20-7 semifinal round loss to Laguna Niguel at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo.

Connor Fink and Jack Payne both hit towering home runs and Sam Schineller and Paxton Burzell had extra base hits for Laguna Beach.

Laguna started the tournament June 29 and dropped a 6-1 game to host Aliso Niguel, but came back July 2 to dump Lake Forest, 13-1, in an elimination game.

Aliso Viejo, which won the 9/10 division title in last year’s district All-Star tournament, won the 10/11 title Sunday by defeating Laguna Niguel, 19-7, in the division final. Aliso Viejo went 3-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents, 36-8.

“It’s always a good time as the kids compete hard in practice, build camaraderie and play against very good competition in the district All-Star tournament,” Laguna Beach Manager Coby Naess said. “Great experience with awesome kids.”

9/10 All-Stars

Two wins prior to the Fourth of July weekend kept title hopes alive for the Laguna Beach 9/10 All-Stars, but those hopes were dashed Saturday after a 15-5 elimination game loss to Newport Beach National at Heroes Park in Lake Forest.

It was the second loss in tournament play for Laguna against Newport Beach National which won (16-1) the tourney opener between the teams June 28. Laguna, however, came back to take a 10-7 win over Irvine Ranch June 29, and a 6-3 win over Laguna Hills July 1, in a pair of elimination contests.

Once-beaten Aliso Viejo handed undefeated Rancho Niguel its first tourney loss, 5-1, Tuesday , to set up a winner-takes-all game for the district championship that was played Wednesday . The score wasn’t available at press time.
