Orange Coast 7, Desert 2

COSTA MESA — Sam Michaels went three for four with three runs batted in to help keep the Pirates (9-0) undefeated after the nonconference game Thursday.

Zach Chavez had one hit and two RBIs. Starter Ryan Doran improved to 2-0 after striking out nine and allowing five hits and one run in eight innings.

Desert is 2-5.



UC Irvine 74, Pacific 66

IRVINE — Tayler Champion posted a career-high 25 points for the Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Thursday.

UCI improves to 14-11 overall and 6-7 in the Big West, while the Tigers fall to 7-18 on the year and 4-8 in the Big West.

Kassandra McAllister had 14 points and Jade Smith-Williams added 13 points for UCI (14-11, 6-7 in conference).


Azusa Pacific 84, Vanguard 69

AZUSA – Molly Pfohl scored 19 points to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Veronica Beavor had 14 points and Allison Burns added 10 points for Vanguard (15-9, 11-7 in conference).

The Cougars are 23-4, 15-2.



Palomar 7, Orange Coast 2

COSTA MESA — Vanessa Scott won at No. 6 singles for the Pirates in the nonconference match Thursday.

OCC (2-2) also scored a win in doubles.

Palomar is 4-1.



UC Irvine 6, Oregon 1

IRVINE — Anteaters No. 1 singles player Chris Kearney extended his win streak to 5-0 in both singles and doubles in the nonconference match Thursday.

Fabian Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, won at No. 4 singles for UCI (5-4).

Oregon is 7-2.



Azusa Pacific 83, Vanguard 77 (OT)

AZUSA — Christopher Raybon scored 15 points to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Confernce game Thursday.

Drew Bruns scored 14 points for Vanguard (6-20, 4-14 in conference).
