Man taken to hospital after 35-foot fall in CdM

A man was injured Friday morning after falling about 35 feet at a Corona del Mar beach, authorities said.

Newport Beach firefighters responded at 6:50 a.m. to a report that a man and his dog had slipped off the rocks at Pirate's Cove and fell to the beach below.

Rescuers approached the beach via an Orange County Sheriff's Department Harbor Patrol boat. The victim was then taken in serious condition to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

The man's dog was found dead upon rescuers' arrival.
