Concordia reaches NAIA semifinal

Concordia 84, LSU Shreveport 65

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Austin Simon scored a team-high 17 points as the No. 4-seeded Eagles won the quarterfinal game of the NAIA Division I tournament Saturday at Municipal Auditorium.

Concordia will play top-seeded Shorter (Ga.) on Monday at 4 p.m. Pacific time, in the first national semifinal. Concordia is making its first Fab Four appearance since 2007, and fourth overall.

Tommy Granado and Cameron Gliddon added 14 points each for Concordia (29-7), which led throughout. The Eagles opened up a 50-25 halftime lead after making eight three-pointers in the first half.

Greg Shyne scored a game-high 21 points for No. 12 LSU Shreveport, which finishes its season 27-8.

BASEBALL

UC Irvine 6, Nevada 5 (10 innings)

RENO – The visiting Anteaters overcame deficits of 3-0 and 4-2 in the nonconference series finale Saturday.

UCI (11-8) scored twice in the fifth to pull even and scored in the top of the ninth, only to see the Wolf Pack rally with one in the bottom of the ninth.

But UCI scored a run without a hit in the 10th and Phil Ferragamo made it stand up for his second win in three pitching decisions this season.

Dillon Moyer was three for four for UCI, for which D.J. Crumlich, Rommy Reyes, Christian Ramirez and Jerry McClanahan all had two hits.

Nevada is 10-8.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO
UC Irvine 15, Harvard 8

IRVINE – Jessy Cardey had four goals and Kelsey Klatt added three for the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Saturday.

UCI improved to 17-5, while the Crimson fell to 9-9.
