CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Molly Rovzar scored six goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Wednesday.

Sophomore Kacie Kline scored five goals, senior Cassidy Napolitano added four goals and sophomore Sabrina Smith had three goals for (6-2, 3-0 in league).

Junior Kylie Mulvaney stood out on defense with three draw controls.

L.A.-O.C. Invitational Shootout

LAGUNA HILLS — Newport Harbor earned two wins to capture the tournament championship Saturday at Laguna Hills High.

The Sailors (3-6) beat Beverly Hills, 1-0, and then scored an 11-7 win over Glendale.

Delaney McCardle stood out on offense, Katie Donald starred on defense and Kirsten Rohan provided assists for Newport Harbor.

SOFTBALL

Corona del Mar 5, Westminster 3

CORONA DEL MAR — Mylie Wilson got the win for the Sea Kings in their final pool-play game of the La Quinta Aztec Classic on Tuesday.

Amanda Penna, Taryn Maister and Sydney McKeown were each two for four with a run scored for CdM. Penna had a double, and Maister had a run batted in.

CdM (7-4), which was undefeated in its pool, plays host to University in the tournament championship game Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 12, Capistrano Valley 10

NEWPORT BEACH — Jake Turner had six goals and one assist for the Sailors in the nonleague game Wednesday.

Riley Robinson and Brandon Rausch scored two goals each; Luke Toohey and Kole Escher had one goal each; Alex Opyd and Ritter Hagadorn had one assist each for Newport Harbor (4-3), which earned its fourth straight win.

Toohey and Riley Peterson combined to win 19 face-offs. Escher and Peterson had five groundballs each. Turner, Hagadorn and Toohey had four groundballs each.

The Sailors play host to Mater Dei Saturday at 11 a.m.

BASEBALL

Marina 3, Newport Harbor 0

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Scott Steffel got the only hit for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Wednesday at Marina High.

Coach Patrick Murphy said Shaun Vetrovec pitched well for Newport Harbor (2-7, 0-2 in league) in his six innings of work. Marina scored all three of its runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Newport Harbor plays host to Los Alamitos on Friday.

COSTA MESA — The Mustangs dropped to 2-7, 0-3 in the Orange Coast League Wednesday.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 117, Saddleback 33

COSTA MESA. — The Mustangs won 10 of 11 events, including all three relays, in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday at Costa Mesa High.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kellie Thorsness, Aubry Hill, Kaitlyn Hill and Lauren Smith touched first in 4 minutes, 5.61 seconds. Smith was one of two freshmen to win events as she captured the 100 free in 1:01.73. Another freshman, Hayley Peterson, won her first varsity event by touching first in the 200 free (2:32.60).

Mesa (3-0 in league) swims at the Savanna Invitational on Saturday.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 113, Saddleback 49

COSTA MESA — The Mustangs won all 11 events in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday at Costa Mesa High.

Tyler Connors, James Lewis and Mason Cooper were all double-event winners for Mesa (5-2, 3-0 in league). Connors won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 2.86 seconds, and also won the 100 back (1:00.69). Lewis was first in the 200 free (1:57.91) and 500 free (5:29.75), and Cooper won the 50 free in 24.16 seconds and the 100 in 53.86.

Quan Nguyen won the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.29 for the Mustangs, who swim at Savanna on Thursday.

COSTA MESA — The Eagles’ Hayden Swift won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.68 seconds in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 17, Los Alamitos 1

LOS ALAMITOS — The Sea Kings’ Alec Adamson swept at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, in the nonleague match Wednesday.

Carson Williams swept at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 7-5, 6-0 for CdM (8-1). The Sea Kings won all nine double sets for the second consecutive match and the fifth time this season. CdM is 72-9 in doubles this year.

LAGUNA HILLS — Erik Cerros and Matt Thomas won two of three at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles (8-3) in the nonleague match Wednesday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 192, Mission Viejo 193

MISSION VIEJO — Chase Wheatley shot a two-under-par 34 and earned medalist honors in a nonleague match at Mission Viejo Country Club on Wednesday, helping the Sea Kings improve to 11-0.

Karick Brown and Mike Moorhead each finished with 38s, followed by Hale Fury and John Davenport, who both had 41s.
