COSTA MESA — Johl Awerkamp had seven kills and three aces to help the Pirates to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 Pacific Coast Conference win Friday.

Jeff Patton, Chris Pratt and Troy Tomasello each added six kills for OCC (11-2, 6-1 in conference), while the setter combination of James Anderson and his brother, Brett Anderson, combined for 31 assists.

The libero combination of Danny Baker and Brad Rostratter teamed up for 11 digs in the Pirates’ win.

OCC plays host to Palomar Wednesday at 6 p.m.

BASEBALL

Gonzaga 4, UC Irvine 1

SPOKANE, Wash. — D.J. Crumlich went two for three with a walk and a run scored for the Anteaters in the nonconference game Friday.

UCI (14-4) finished with six hits and comitted a season-high four errors. Gonzaga is 11-7-1.

The Anteaters, who banged out five hits in the first two innings, were held to one hit in the next seven frames.

Starter Matt Summers (2-2) lasted seven innings and struck out eight while walking two and had to contend with two Anteater errors that led to a pair of unearned runs.

MEN’S GOLF

Barona Collegiate Cup

LAKESIDE — UC Irvine tied for seventh Friday at Barona Creek Golf Club.

San Diego State won the 16-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 1,079, San Diego was second at 1,086 and Saint Mary’s finished third at 1,110. UCI, Colorado and New Mexico tied for seventh at 1,127.

Glen Scher of UC Santa Barbara was medalist at seven-under-par 209 after a final round of even-par 72. Nevada’s Scott Smith and San Diego State’s J.J. Spaun tied for second place one shot back at 210.

UCI senior Max Greil shot a 77 Friday to finish 13th at 220. Freshman Allan Jun (76) and sophomore Jerry He (73) tied for 28th at 224.

Sophomore Mickey Chan (79) placed 44th at 228, senior Bryan Harris (77) was 69th at 233 and freshman Zack Duan (77) finished 82nd at 237.

The Anteaters return to action April 9-10 in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
