‘Field of Honor’

The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor presents its third annual Armed Forces Day program, featuring “The Field of Honor,” a display of 1,776 American flags in Castaways Park, off Dover Drive in Newport Beach. At noon Saturday, Lt. Col. Robert J. Friend, 92, one of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen, will give the keynote speech at a dedication ceremony. Kathryn Smith, a Costa Mesa resident, along with Betty and David Comegys — and the San Diego Padres and American Cancer Society acting as a third party — are organizing an event at Sunday’s Angels-Padres game at Petco Park in San Diego to benefit the ACS. The group has reserved the top floor of the Western Metal Supply Co. building near the left-field foul pole at Petco.
