Scott Brooks, the head coach of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, will take part in the UC Irvine/Scott Brooks Golf Invitational to support student-athlete scholarships at his alma mater on Sept. 21.

The event will be at Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine and feature a shotgun start at 1 p.m., course contests, opportunities to interact with UCI coaches and athletes, and a cocktail reception and silent auction after the round of golf.

The winner of the tournament will earn a trip to participate in the BMW Cup at Pinehurst Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C.

“I am very happy to be associated with this event to help raise scholarship funds for the student-athletes at UCI,” Brooks said in a press release. “I am, and always will be, an Anteater, and will do anything I can to assist UCI athletics and the university. I encourage the community to participate in this event and support the outstanding student-athletes at UCI.”

Brooks played with the Anteaters from 1985-87 and averaged 23.8 points in his senior season.

He went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA. In 1994, he won an NBA title with the Houston Rockets.

As the coach of the Thunder the past two seasons, Oklahoma has reached the playoffs each time and advanced to the Western Conference finals last season.
