COSTA MESA — Call it an art show to make the dead — and your wallet — rejoice.
Food trucks, music, live performances, spooky face-painting and affordable handmade artwork will come together from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday for Dia de los Muertos, in the first of monthly events hosted by FIND Art Magazine.
The free art show and event at FIND Art Galleries, 1640 Superior Ave., will showcase hundreds of handmade posters from local artists including pieces from Black Flys artist Steev Creeper.
While Creeper's acrylic-on-canvas pieces are listed as high as $3,000 on the artist's website, all handmade posters — including those from Creeper — will be less than $50 at the FIND Art Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, show.
"The mission of FIND Art is to make art accessible to everyone," founder Neight Adamson said of including high-quality 5-by-7-inch prints in the free seasonal publication. "Even someone who can't typically afford artwork can pull out a page from the magazine and frame it."
The low-cost artwork not only benefits those looking to decorate their walls with quality posters, but the event itself also serves to promote the artists and bring together a community of art patrons, Adamson said.
"Art is happening all around us, every day in nooks and crannies that you wouldn't think to look in," Adamson said. "It's important for people to see that and know what's happening all around us. Unfortunately, a lot of artists don't know how to expose their work."
In February, FIND Art hosted a similar event, which attracted about 350 guests to the about 3,000-square-foot gallery space.
Due to the success of that event, Adamson made plans to make the affordably priced art show a monthly event.
Eleven artists with various techniques, including silk-screen, collage, stencil and pinstripe, will be featured in the inaugural "first Wednesdays" show.
Artists can submit their work to FIND Art Magazine at findartmagazine.com, to be featured in an upcoming issues or monthly shows.
