A diaper rally was held Friday in the parking lot of the former offices of the Daily Pilot and Los Angeles Times in Costa Mesa.

About 1.1 million diapers, stacked in piles more than 6 feet tall, were collected at the building on Sunflower Avenue for the Builders for Babies Diaper Drive.

Area home builders, including William Lyon Homes, Lennar and FivePoint Communities, organized the event to gather diapers to give to nonprofits throughout Orange County and the Inland Empire.

The drive also featured a competition between the organizers, who built five structures, including a castle, made of diaper boxes and other materials.
