More than 2,000 walkers and runners are expected to take to the streets Saturday for the 33rd annual Corona del Mar Scenic 5K.
The race starts on Ocean Boulevard near Iris Avenue. From there, runners will head east down Ocean toward Poppy Avenue, where they will turn north toward Seaview Avenue. Walkers will follow a slightly shorter 2-mile route, turning north on Narcissus Avenue.
Participants will continue to wind through the neighborhood, never passing above East Coast Highway, until they reach the finish line marked on Goldenrod Avenue, south of Bayside Drive.
Road closures have been detailed on the website for the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce, which is hosting the race.
Registration will be accepted throughout the morning of the event, though an additional $7 fee will apply for same-day registration.
Early registration can be accomplished online through Wednesday. In-person early registration and packet pickup will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Newport Beach Civic Center, 100 Civic Center Drive.
More participants than usual have formed teams this year, including neighbors representing their street block and co-workers representing their businesses, said Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce President Linda Leonhard.
"We have something for all ages," she said, later adding, "It's another tradition in the neighborhood."
A party, including live entertainment, "Restaurant Row" and an awards ceremony will follow the race near Inspiration Point.
Participants are encouraged to park in the Corona del Mar State Beach parking lot.
