Fashion Island menorah lighting today

Newport Beach’s Chabad Jewish Center will celebrate the Festival of Lights with a public menorah lighting ceremony on Tuesday at Fashion Island’s Atrium Garden Court.

The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. with a holiday musical performance by a group of children from the Friendship Circle. There will be Hanukkah crafts, face painting, balloon animals and treats for guests.

Jason Lezak, an eight-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer, will light the Friendship Menorah.

Participants are encouraged to bring a gift for a community toy drive.

"It is a holiday that enriches our lives and strengthens our tradition," said Rabbi Reuven Mintz. "In ancient times, our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place."
