High School Roundup: Estancia tops Mesa in boys' tennis

Charlie Griffin, Kyle Hastings and Sterling Gates swept at Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively, to lead the host Eagles in the Orange Coast League match Thursday.

Estancia improved to 7-3, 4-1 in league.

Corona del Mar 10, Beckman 8

Bjorn Hoffmann swept in singles, as did Carson Williams and Jonathan Rhone in doubles for the host Sea Kings in Thursday's Pacific Coast League match.

The score was tied 6-6 in sets and 50-50 in games after two rounds. Hoffmann and Ryan Andrews won in singles in the third round, and the doubles teams of Williams and Rhone, as well as Samee Abobukare and Tyler Gaede, also won to clinch the match for CdM ( 11-2, 5-1 in league).

Fountain Valley 12,

Newport Harbor 6

Sailors junior Reese Stalder swept at No. 1 singles, improving to 25-0 this season in Thursday's Sunset League match at Newport Harbor High.

David Lee and Gavin Leonard each won one singles set for Newport Harbor (9-2, 2-1 in league). The

YORBA LINDA — Daniela Vazquez had three second-half goals to lead the visiting Sailors on Wednesday.

Vazquez added two ground balls, while Alex Palmer had four goals and a ground ball for the Tars.

Goalie Cailynn Smethurst made 12 saves to pace the host Sailors on Thursday.

Kim Comet and Alex Palmer had two goals apiece for the winners, while Rylie Siegfried was credited with strong all-around play.

Brad Tapfer shot one-over-par 37 for the Sailors in a Sunset League match at Big Canyon Country Club on Thursday.

Thomas Terry carded a 39 for Newport Harbor (5-7, 0-7 in league).

The host Sea Kings scored once in the seventh to win the nonleague game Thursday.

Brooke Franson's triple drove in two runs in the fifth for CdM (8-6).

Sydney McKeown earned the win in relief.

IRVINE — CdM senior Giovanni Gentosi was a double winner for the visiting Sea Kings in Thursday's Pacific Coast League meet.

Gentosi won the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 21/2 inches. He also captured the discus (139-3).

Spencer Keith won the 3,200-meter race in 9 minutes, 43 seconds for CdM and Alex Wilde won the high jump (5- 10).

Godinez 63,

Costa Mesa 59

Mustangs juniors and Anuare Magana and Elijah Blandford each won two events in Thursday's Orange Coast League meet at Jim Scott Stadium.

Magana captured the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 36 seconds, and the 800 in 2:04.

Blandford won the 100 in 11.03, and the 200 in 23.6.

Corona del Mar 52

IRVINE — CdM sophomore Emma Kratzberg set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles in Thursday's Pacific Coast League meet on the road.

Kratzberg finished in 15.25 seconds. The previous school record was 15.7, said Kratzberg's mother, Yvette.

Lilly Schmidt won the 1,600 in 5:08 and Emily Glenn won the long jump (15-81/2 inches).

Riley Gerdau won the triple jump (32-10) and Amanda Cooper won the discus (103-1) for CdM.

Godinez 79,

Costa Mesa 36

Costa Mesa sophomore Paigie LaBare captured two sprint races in Thursday's Orange Coast League meet at Jim Scott Stadium.

LaBare won the 100 meters in 12.46 seconds, and the 200 in 26.3.

Mesa senior Daysi Vazquez won the 1,600 in 5:45, and the 3,200 in 12:23.
