UCI’s Alcantara, Kreuter on All-Big West baseball first team

UC Irvine junior Adam Alcantara and sophomore Cole Kreuter have been named first-team All-Big West Conference in baseball.

UCI senior Elliott Surrey, Cal State Fullerton sophomore Connor Seabold and Cal State Fullerton junior Scott Serigstad are area standouts who are second-team honorees.

Alcantara, an outfielder, finished the season on a 16-game hitting streak and hit .393 in Big West games. He drove in 19 runs during conference play.

Alcantara hit .337 overall with two home runs, 36 RBIs and five stolen bases.

Kreuter, a second baseman, hit .284 overall with one homer, 26 RBIs, 31 runs and four stolen bases.

Against Big West pitching, Kreuter hit .282 with 11 RBIs and 11 runs in 24 games.

Surrey, the Anteaters’ No. 1 starting pitcher, finished 4-6 with a 3.65 earned-run average. In eight conference starts, he was 2-5 with a 4.29 ERA.

Surrey’s two conference wins were complete games against Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. Against Fullerton, Surrey posted a five-hit shutout in which he struck out seven. Against Cal State Northridge, he surrendered three hits and one run, while striking out 10, which matched his season best.

Seabold, a Newport Harbor High product and a weekend starting pitcher for the conference champion Titans, is 7-5 with a 2.42 ERA heading into the NCAA Regional.

In eight conference starts, he was 5-3 with a 2.05 ERA, with 54 strikeouts and only three walks in 48 1/3 innings.

Serigstad, part of Orange Coast College’s state championship team in 2015, leads the Titans with four saves, all in conference play.

Serigstad was 1-1 in conference, his only two decisions, and posted an 0.83 ERA in 21 2/3 conference innings. Overall, he has a 1.13 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

UCI senior first baseman Mitchell Holland received honorable mention. He hit .322 with one homer and 12 RBIs in 24 conference games, and hit .300 with two homers and 32 RBIs overall.

UCI finished 31-15, 11-13 in conference, tied for seventh place.

Cal State Fullerton senior outfielder Dalton Blaser is the Field Player of the Year, while Long Beach State sophomore Darren McCaughnan is the Pitcher of the Year.

Cal State Fullerton’s Rick Vanderhook is the Coach of the Year.
