Hodson leads U.S. volleyball to gold

Hayley Hodson, a Newport Beach resident, led the U.S. women's junior national team to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 sweep against Cuba in the gold medal match at the NORCECA Under-20 Women's Continental Championships on Sunday in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Hodson, a former Corona del Mar High standout who is committed to Stanford, finished with 14 points, 10 coming on kills, two on service aces and two on blocks. Hodson, who played opposite, was a captain on the U.S. team.

"It feels good to win the gold and to qualify to the world championship undefeated and without dropping a set as a reward for playing hard," Hodson said on the NORCECA website. "We'll now return to play for our own clubs and continue in our individual development as players."
