Orange Empire Conference Championships

Orange Coast College sophomore Alyssa Allen won the individual title on Friday at Huntington Beach Central Park.

Allen, who was third at conference finals as a freshman, covered the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 2.9 seconds, nearly 23 seconds faster than the runner-up, defending conference champion Toni Lopez of Santa Ana College.

OCC sophomore Bethani Heising was seventh in 20:03.2.

OCC competes in the Southern California Regional Finals on Friday at Irvine Park in Orange.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Orange Empire Conference Championships

Orange Coast College sophomore Danny Dominguez finished second to help the Pirates place third on Sunday at Huntington Beach Central Park.

Dominguez completed the four-mile course in 20 minutes, 54.5 seconds, just less than two seconds behind winner Joshua Silva from Santa Ana College.

OCC freshman Peter Costanzo was fourth in 21:13.2 to help OCC record 65 points, behind Riverside (37) and Santa Ana (47).

OCC competes next in the Southern California Regional Finals on Friday at Irvine Park in Orange.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal State Fullerton 2, UC Irvine 1 (OT)

FULLERTON — The visiting Anteaters were denied a share of first place when the Titans scored in the first overtime in the Big West Conference regular-season finale on Sunday.

Elizabeth Hutchison put UCI (13-6-1, 5-2-1 in conference) in front in the 44th minute, but the Titans (8-10, 5-3) equalized with an own goal in the 67th minute.

It was the first time all season UCI lost in the 14 matches in which it has scored, and the first time it has lost when leading at halftime (now 6-1).

Coach Scott Juniper’s Anteaters finish behind Cal State Northridge, which beat Hawaii, 1-0, on Sunday to finish 6-1-1. UCI is the No. 2 seed in the four-team Big West tournament and will meet Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 in a semifinal at Long Beach State.

Northridge meets No. 4-seeded Long Beach State in the other semfinal at 5 p.m.

The final is scheduled Sunday at 1 p.m. at Long Beach State.

Santiago Canyon 2, Golden West 1

The host Rustlers flirted with a huge upset in the Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.

Valentina Mann put Golden West up, 1-0, forcing the visitors to tie in the 87th minute and win it in the 90th minute.

Santiago Canyon is 16-0-1, 12-0-1 in conference).

Golden West is 2-10-4, 1-8-4.

MEN’S SOCCER

Orange Coast 3, Cypress 2

CYPRESS — Taylor Kane had the game-winning goal and added an assist for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game on Tuesday.

Kane broke a 2-2- tie in the 84th minute and assisted on Michael Hunter’s goal in the ninth minute that opened the scoring.

Jack Slavik scored OCC’s second goal in the 64th minute.

Osiel Porcayo had seven saves for OCC (6-6-5, 4-4-4 in conference).

Cypress is 5-12-2, 2-8-2.
