They’ve done it again.

Students from UC Irvine shattered the Guinness world record for largest game of dodgeball Tuesday afternoon, drawing 6,084 participants and earning the university its fourth such title.

UC Irvine wrestled the title away from the University of Alberta, a four-time record-holder whose most recent mark was earned by 4,979 players on Feb. 3.

UC Irvine spokeswoman Laura Rico confirmed that a Guinness official was present at the game and announced the record had been broken.

UC Irvine last held the title a year ago, when 4,488 people took part in the schoolyard pastime. Both that effort and Tuesday’s record-breaker came during the university’s Welcome Week, when about 6,000 incoming students are introduced to campus life.
