10 Essentials to Stock in Your Backyard Shed

Essentials to Stock in Your Backyard Shed

Even if you own one of the best garden sheds available, you may not know what to actually fill it up with. Sure, you may only be using one or two different tools right now, but you may come across a situation that calls for a certain type of tool or accessory that you don’t already own. Ideally, you’ll want to be prepared for all scenarios, so you don’t end up having to travel to the store beforehand. Here are ten of the most important tools you should have in your backyard shed at all times.

Lawnmower

This is essential if you have any sort of mowable lawn. You could definitely get away with a small analog grasscutter or some other tool, but a lawnmower makes the process much easier and simpler, no matter how small your lawn may be. Depending on your budget and needs, you could go for a gas-engined mower or an electric one instead. Either way, lawnmowers really save you time when keeping your lawn in shape, and it never hurts to have it in your shed.

Wrench Sets

Wrenches come in handy when you least expect them. Whether it’s to install a new piece of equipment or make some DIY repairs on existing stuff, you’ll need a set of wrenches to be handy on the job. Note that we mention wrench “sets” instead of just one, as you’ll want to be prepared for any type of bolt you come across.

Hammers

Hammers are incredibly useful. While hammers are most commonly known for driving nails into wood or soil, they can also be used to apply a strong force on objects, which is something you’ll end up needing more often than you think.

Drill

Drills fill a specific, yet vital role - making holes in walls. Whether it’s concrete, wood, or something else, drills can puncture holes right through them with the right bit and power. Do note that you’ll need an accompanying set of drill bits if you want to drill on different surfaces, as some tips are meant for certain materials only.

Gloves

When working in your backyard, it’s expected to get down and dirty, but it wouldn’t hurt to be a little bit cleaner after the job with some gloves. Gloves are also great insulators and can help when dealing with hot or electrically charged equipment.

Scissors

Scissors are useful in all types of situations, from opening boxes to cutting tape. Scissors are incredibly cheap too, and there’s no reason why you shouldn't have an extra pair laying in your shed.

Duct Tape

Duct tape is known for being incredibly versatile, and it can be used to patch up just about anything. They’re more of a temporary solution than a permanent one, but in emergencies where you just need two objects to stick, duct tape has got you covered.

Superglue

Superglue is a more permanent alternative to duct tape. It bonds two objects together really well, regardless of the material, and can be useful to seal objects or hold together items in a pinch.

Screwdriver Set

No shed is complete without a set of screwdrivers. These handy tools will let you open up a wide range of appliances for DIY cleaning and repairs.

Rake

Rakes are more situational and are really only useful for people who have trees in their backyard. They’re really useful during autumn, however, and you’ll need a rake if you want to keep your lawn nice and tidy.
