Earlier this year, the United Arab Emirates’s National Media Council instituted new regulations, whereby influencers must secure a $4,000 license to continue their promotional work. “It’s bad and it’s good,” says influencer @leenalghouti, a 26-year-old Palestinian-Canadian who has become one of the UAE’s most beloved street style stars, not only for her effortlessly cool style but also because she has been refreshingly genuine about her own love of fashion and her desire to teach people about what it really means to dress modestly. "The law really makes them consider whether or not they want to be an influencer.
