Jeep Grand Wagoneer, la gran sorpresa!

Hay carros que sorprenden por su potencia. Hay otros que nos asombran por su eficiencia. Pero de vez en cuando entra al mercado algo que nos deja con la boca abierta. Jeep re-introduce el nombre Grand Wagoneer con una camioneta grande en el segmento de las SUV, pero eso es solo parte de la noticia. Esta Grand Wagoneer transporta a sus ocupantes a un mundo de alto lujo que, por su interior, deja atrás a marcas como Bentley y Land Rover. Y no es solo mi opinión. Este vehículo se ha convertido en un nuevo patrón de interiores, que al estilo Jeep, les ha pasado a todos por encima.

Si bien su exterior es un poco atemporal y con una delicada parrilla cromada, el solo abrir la puerta nos presenta con algo inesperado. Frente a madera de nogal americano, con detalles en aluminio, y un interior tapizado en delicada piel napa, son detalles que hasta hace poco eran inimaginables en un producto americano.

Los asientos por ejemplo poseen 24 ajustes por medio de motores eléctricos y reposa cabezas ajustables en 4 posiciones con solo apretar un botón. Estos sillones en piel Palermo de alta calidad poseen perforaciones pare que pase el aire frio o caliente a través de ellos. La costura a dos tonos y en forma de diamantes es muy atractiva y como si fuera poco estos asientos se convierten en sillas de masajes.

Los carros de lujo se han caracterizado por incorporar sistemas de audio de alta calidad, pero la Grand Wagoneer es la primera en asociarse con la icónica firma de Nueva York McIntosh. Esta empresa ya es legendaria por la calidad sonora de sus amplificadores y el altísimo costo de sus sistemas inigualables. Se instalaron 23 bocinas y un amplificador de 1,375 Watts con 24 canales dentro de esta SUV. De mas esta decir que suena mejor que un concierto en vivo.

Por supuesto hoy los consumidores exigen conectividad y tecnología. La nueva Grand Wagoneer está equipada con la ultima generación del sistema Uconnect5, una de las plataformas mas rápidas e intuitivas en existencia.

A través de la pantalla central de 12 pulgadas, y ya sea por tacto o voz, se controlan todas las aplicaciones, teléfono, navegación y asistencia al conductor. Otra pantalla táctil horizontal se encarga del sistema de clima interior. En el lado derecho del tablero el pasajero posee su propia pantalla con la cual puede hacerse cargo de la navegación, entretenimiento, y control de las cámaras y pantallas de los pasajeros en los asientos de atrás. En la segunda fila de asientos hay tres pantallas para que cada uno pueda entretenerse en los viajes largos con sus aplicaciones o películas preferidas.

Fire TV, Wi-fi, Alexa, todo lo nuevo está integrado en este interior. Frente al conductor el panel de instrumentos es digital y puede manejar más de dos docenas de diferentes menús para escoger sistemas de asistencia como detección de cansancio, crucero adaptivo, control de carril y visión nocturna. El espejo retrovisor ahora proporciona una mejor vista hacia atrás ya que se trata de una cámara en la parte trasera de la camioneta. Es posible también ver todo lo que esta alrededor del carro y dentro del mismo en la pantalla central. La lista de funciones es inmensa y necesitaría mas de una semana para aprenderlas todas.

No puedo dejar de mencionar que esta Wagoneer es cien por ciento Jeep, por lo que la capacidad de 4x4 también es cosa seria. Con suspensión de aire y el paquete Quadra-Drive II con diferenciales anti-bloqueantes electrónicos la Grand Wagoneer es uno de los vehículos mas capaces en el mundo. La suspensión eleva la camioneta para que tenga diez pulgadas de espacio entre el terreno y el coche. También posee un bajísimo rango de velocidad controlada de 48:1, lo que le permite subir o bajar cuestas muy empinadas con mucha facilidad. Nieve, barro, lluvia ya no son cosas que afectan el avance en plena comodidad de esta gran nave.

Para mí ha sido la gran sorpresa del año ya que la sofisticación de su interior, la integración de tecnología y la capacidad como transporte en todo tipo de terreno no habían sido combinados, hasta ahora, en un paquete tan completo.

This Grand Wagoneer transports its occupants to a world of high luxury that leaves behind brands such as Bentley and Land Rover. And it’s not just my opinion. This vehicle has become a new interior standard in the premium segment. Who would have thought it would be a Jeep to do it?

While its exterior is a bit timeless with a delicate chrome grill, just opening the door presents us with something unexpected. You are seeing a dash faced with American walnut wood, aluminum embossed details, and an interior upholstered in delicate Nappa leather. These are details that until recently were unimaginable in an American product. The seats, for example, have 24 adjustments through electric motors and adjustable headrests in 4 positions at the push of a button. These high-quality Palermo leather seats have perforations to allow hot or cold air to pass through them. The two-tone and diamond-shaped stitching is beautiful, and as if that weren’t enough, these seats turn into massage chairs.

Luxury cars incorporate high-quality audio systems, but the Grand Wagoneer is the first to be associated with the iconic New York firm McIntosh Audio. There are 23 speakers and a 1,375 watt 24 channel amplifier inside this SUV. It sounds better than a live act.

Of course, today, consumers demand connectivity and technology. The new Grand Wagoneer comes with the latest generation of the Uconnect5 system, one of the fastest and most intuitive platforms in existence. All applications, telephone, navigation, and driver assistance are controlled through the central 12-inch screen and either by touch or voice control. Another horizontal touchscreen takes care of the indoor climate system. On the right side of the dashboard, the passenger has his own screen with which he can take charge of navigation, entertainment, and control of the cameras and screens of the passengers in the back seats. In the second row of seats, there are three screens so that everyone can entertain themselves on long trips with their favorite applications or movies. Fire TV, Wi-fi, Alexa, everything new is here. In front of the driver, the instrument panel is digital. It can handle more than two dozen different menus to choose assistance systems such as fatigue detection, adaptive cruise, lane control, and night vision. The rearview mirror now provides a better view of the rear as it is a camera in the truck’s rear roof. It is also possible to see everything around the car and inside it on the central screen. The list of functions is immense, and it would take more than a week to learn them all.

I can’t fail to mention that this Wagoneer is one hundred percent Jeep, so 4x4 capability is serious stuff too. With air suspension and the Quadra-Drive II package with electronic anti-lock differentials, the Grand Wagoneer is one of the most capable vehicles in the world. The SUV suspension raises the truck to have ten inches of clearance between the ground and the car. It also has a very low 48: 1 crawl speed range, allowing you to go up or down very steep slopes with ease. Snow, mud, rain are no longer things that affect the comfort of this great ship.

For me, it was the big surprise of the year. The sophistication of the interior, the integration of technology, and the capacity to transport seven persons in all types of terrain are extraordinary.
