Meeting on ‘McMansions’ slated for Burbank

Share

Burbank city officials will host a community meeting on Thursday to discuss what residents would like single-family homes to look like in the city.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in room 104 at the Community Services Building, 150 N. Third St. Attendees can tell city planners and other officials what designs they deem appropriate for houses as the city grows.

In February, city officials hosted several “walk-shops” around the community, asking residents to take or upload photos of single-family homes they believe would fit the aesthetics of the city. This was done because of the growing concern from residents about a possible increase in overly-large homes, which some have called “McMansions.”

Last spring, the city adopted a temporary moratorium on residential projects through March 2017 in an effort to allow city officials to work with a consultant to develop new housing standards that will help maintain Burbank’s character.

The meeting will also allow city officials to talk with residents about the suggestions they received during the walk-shops and through the city’s smartphone app, called Our Burbank, which allows people to upload home designs they like or dislike.
