Man shot outside Burbank apartment complex

A 22-year-old Burbank man was hospitalized Monday night after he was shot outside a Burbank apartment complex near McCambridge Park, marking the third shooting in the city this month, police said.

At around 8:20 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of Scott Road, where they found the victim with multiple wounds on his lower body, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco. The shooting occurred right outside an apartment complex down the street at 1600 N. San Fernando Blvd.

The victim, who is expected to survive, was taken to a hospital, where investigators on Monday waited to speak with him.

A description of the shooter or shooters was not available.

According to Losacco, shootings in the area near the park are uncommon.

“We don’t really hear gunfire in this area,” Losacco said. “It is a busy area, but shootings are indeed rare.”

Erick Aghakhani was sitting on his couch inside his home with the door open when he heard sirens blaring toward his street.

He walked outside, where the victim was on the ground, surrounded by people, bleeding and screaming.

“I told you not to do that, I warned you,” another man yelled, before going back inside a nearby apartment building, Aghakhani recalled, calling the incident “kind of unsettling.”

Glendale police also responded to the scene to assist with pedestrian and traffic control.

Burbank investigators did not know if the shooting on Monday was related to two other shootings reported this month.

At around 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 17, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of South Lake Street, about a block away from the Glendale border.

Witnesses had seen a man with a gun confront two other men walking north on Lake Street. They exchanged gang names and insults before the armed man fired a handgun toward the two others.

Roughly two weeks earlier, around the same time of day, witnesses reported seeing a man get out of the passenger side of a car parked on Lake Street near Verdugo Avenue before firing multiple shots from a handgun and getting back in the car.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Anyone with information about any of the shootings can call Burbank police at (818) 238-3210.
