Mending Kids holds annual fundraiser
More than 400 people attended a fundraiser for Burbank-based Mending Kids on Saturday, raising $150,000 to support the nonprofit, which has provided more than 1,500 free, life-altering surgeries to children in 54 countries since its inception in 2006.
The second annual Come Home event was sponsored by the Malibu guild of Mending Kids. The event, held at Triunfo Creek Vineyards in Agoura Hills, raised the funds for the organization’s Hometown Mission, which provides surgeries to local children.
Last year, the event raised enough money for 18 children and teens from 6 months to 18 years old to undergo surgeries at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center performed by eight volunteer surgeons led by Dr. Andrew Freedman. All of the volunteer surgeons were honored at this year’s event.
Mending Kids also vets host families from all over Los Angeles County and beyond where children and teens can stay while undergoing the surgeries.
This year’s “Hometown Mission,” where local children and teens will undergo their surgeries, will take place on Aug. 2 at the Specialty Surgical Center in Beverly Hills.
