Events support ending violence toward women

The international group One Billion Rising is inviting the public to participate in its Valentine's Day event to "walk out, dance, rise up and demand" an end to violence against women.

The group is holding two events in Fountain Valley.

Thursday is the 15th anniversary of V-Day, which was created to perform benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues."

The group now holds performances of that show as well as other artistic events to raise awareness and money for anti-violence organizations.

The OC Hoopers — a hula hoop group — will meet at Mile Square Park, at Euclid Street and Heil Avenue, from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday. They suggest bringing LED and glow-in-the dark toys, and there will be glow hula hoops.

David Douglas Salon and Spa is also inviting the public to come to the sidewalk in front of the salon at 8744 Warner Ave. in Fountain Valley for a dance party from noon to 3 p.m.
