Murton Louis Munson

Murton L. (Murt) Munson passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2011. He was born November 14, 1934 in Los Angeles, Ca. to Louis and Lilian Munson. Murt graduated from Inglewood H.S. in 1952.

In 1954 he entered the Naval Cadet program in Pensacola, Fl. and transferred to the Marine Corps where he earned his wings in Corpus Christi, Texas. From there he spent fourteen months in Atsugi, Japan with VMF(AW) 513, an all weather fighter squadron named the Flying Nightmares. He completed his military service at El Toro. Murt then re-enrolled in college where he earned a BA in Business Administration from Long Beach State.

Penelope (Penny) Ann Chism and Murt were married in 1958 and settled down in Long Beach and soon after moved to Los Angeles, to raise their two children Michelle (Shelly) and Steven.

Murt spent his career in Insurance and Risk Management. He returned to school for Graduate work and earned the designations of CPCU and ARM from UCLA. In 1983 the family moved to Lido Isle in Newport Beach where he greatly enjoyed being close to the water and being active in the community. After retiring in the late ‘90’s he was able to pursue his many hobbies including travel, painting, vintage cars and boating. He was a Staff Commodore of Lido Isle Yacht Club and an active member of Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

Murt was a kind and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by all. Murt is survived by Penny, his wife of 53 years and children Shelly Clark (David) and Steven Munson. Grandsons, Andrew and Brooks Clark.
