Laguna Beach school district makes interim business official’s job permanent

The Laguna Beach Unified School District on Tuesday made permanent its interim assistant superintendent of business services.

The school board appointed Jeff Dixon to the position.

Dixon had served in the interim role, which includes managing district revenues and expenditures, since January, when Dean West took a similar job with the Orange County Department of Education.

“Over the last several months, Mr. Dixon has proven that he is ready to take on the position,” Supt. Jason Viloria said in a news release. “And the feedback I have received from staff has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The district hired Dixon as its facilities director in 2014. He is certified as a chief business official by the California Assn. of School Business Officials, and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cal State Sacramento, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Dixon, in an email, said he is “incredibly honored.”

“Serving as an assistant superintendent of business has always been a career goal of mine, and I am forever grateful to Dr. Viloria and our board of education for this opportunity,” Dixon said.

The district will eventually hire a facilities director. Dixon had overseen that department while in the interim position.
