3 administrators recommended for principal roles

Three Newport-Mesa Unified School District staff members have been recommended to fill the roles of principal at two middle schools and an elementary school, the district announced Friday.

If approved by the school board, Aaron Peralta will become principal of Costa Mesa’s Victoria Elementary, Guy Olguin will take over as principal of Costa Mesa Middle School and Rebecca Gogel will assume the role for Corona del Mar Middle School.

Peralta has served as principal at Costa Mesa Middle School since 2008. During his tenure, the middle school’s Academic Performance Index score has improved by 88 points, according to a news release.

“Dr. Peralta’s background as a middle school administrator will be an asset to carrying forward the strong academic expectations already in place at [Victoria],” the release stated.

Peralta would replace Victoria Principal Linda Tenno, who recently announced her intent to retire at the end of this school year.

Olguin has served as principal of Corona del Mar Middle School for the past nine years. During that time, he has maintained its high academic performance and assisted with the development of the campus.

This experience will aid him in overseeing the completion of development at Costa Mesa Middle School’s campus, according to the release.

Gogel has served as an administrator at Newport-Mesa since 2000, the release stated.

This school year she served as an administrator on special assignment providing program support at the secondary level, which included directing the adult education program and providing administrative support at Corona del Mar Middle and High schools.

“Dr. Gogel has been an instrumental resource to the Corona del Mar campus this year,” the release stated. “Her strong ethics and experience as an educational leader will ensure her transition to the full-time administrator of the [middle school] program is seamless.”

The school board is expected to vote on the recommendations at its next meeting July 8.
