Bay Island gets a new bridge

Resident Julie Mattson said the crowd “roared” as the new bridge for Bay Island was completed at the end of Island Avenue on the Balboa Peninsula on Thursday. The bridge will replace another that was built in the late 1950s and was only wide enough for pedestrians and golf carts — too narrow to accommodate emergency vehicles.
