Laguna Beach High’s Guyer Field gets a new look

Share

After a summer spent getting a makeover, Laguna Beach High’s Guyer Field is ready for football, soccer and track and field events.

The $2.3-million project included a new playing surface, an additional rubber layer on the track, more drains to prevent flooding and an LED scoreboard.

Among changes to the look of the field are end-zone lettering and wider white sideline boundaries.

The new field surface incorporates a type of infill made up of the natural mineral clinoptilolite zeolite. Molecules in this kind of infill are arranged in lattice-like structures that hold moisture for longer periods of time, keeping the turf cooler.

The previous surface contained sand and black rubber pellets, which conduct heat.

Crews placed new drains under the field and along the perimeter of the track to catch water that funnels from other parts of campus.

The first official game on the redone field was held Sept. 2. The Breakers defeated La Quinta, 52-14, in their home opener.
