Police are looking for a man who used a baseball bat to attack another man during a robbery in Costa Mesa.

At 2:24 p.m. Wednesday, the robber used an unlocked door to enter an apartment where he used to be a tenant in the 400 block of Merrimac Way, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Mike Manson said.

The robber made it look like he was holding a weapon in his pocket and demanded cash from a man inside, according to police.

The robber then left with a stolen iPad, phone and cash, but the victim gave chase, Manson said.

Police said the robber escaped after ditching the stolen items, which the victim recovered nearby.

Manson said the robber and the victim know each other, but their relationship wasn’t clear.

Police have not made an arrest or released a description of the robber.
