My Answer: No, you won’t get bored in heaven

Q: To be honest, heaven sounds kind of boring to me. I’m sure it will be very interesting for a while, but eventually I think I’ll just be bored. Am I wrong? — Mrs. R.P.

A: Yes, you are wrong. Heaven will be far more exciting than anything we will ever experience on this earth. The one thing we will never be in heaven is bored.

Why? One reason is because we will be with God — and because he is infinite and eternal, we will never grow tired of exploring the riches of his glory. Nor will we ever be able to exhaust the wonders of his love — a love so great that he sent his son to give his life for our salvation. We also will be with Christ, and we will have new bodies that will never grow weary or sick.

I’ve wondered also if perhaps God will give us the opportunity to explore the glories of the universe he created, from the smallest subatomic particle to the most distant galaxies. As the Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

But we won’t be sitting around doing nothing. Instead, God will have work for us to do, although without getting tired like we do here. In heaven, the Bible says, “his servants will serve him” (Revelation 22:3).

The real issue, however, is this: Do you know for certain that you will go to heaven when you die? You can be sure, by giving your life to Christ and trusting him for your salvation. Don’t delay, but commit your life to him today.

Then you’ll know Jesus’ promise is true: “My Father’s house has many rooms.... I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).

Q: I’m an emergency room nurse in our local hospital, and I get very discouraged because so many of the people we see are there because they’ve done something stupid, or they haven’t taken care of themselves. Does the Bible say anything about taking care of our bodies? Or is it just concerned with spiritual things? — Mrs. D.E.

A: Yes, the Bible has a great deal to say about our bodies and our responsibility to take care of them. In fact, many of the laws in the Old Testament had to do with healthy living, and the Bible repeatedly warns us not to harm our bodies but to use them for God’s glory.

After all, God gave our bodies to us, and he doesn’t want us to neglect or misuse them. Furthermore, when we come to Christ, God himself comes to live within us by his Holy Spirit, and if we misuse our bodies we are sinning against the holy one who now lives within us.

The Bible says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit...? Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Why do people abuse their bodies and neglect their health? I’ve often pondered this question, because (as you witness every day) it can only lead to sorrow and suffering, and even death. But sin, like a deadly disease, has taken hold of us, and it deceives us into thinking we will get by with it. But we won’t.

Turn to Christ every day for the encouragement you need. What you’re doing is important — to others and to God. And ask him also to make you a blessing to those you meet, not only helping them physically but also pointing them to Jesus as you have opportunity.
