College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball wins at Cal State Fullerton

Eyassu Worku and Collin Welp each had a game-high 20 points as the UC Irvine men’s basketball team beat Cal State Fullerton 74-61 in a Big West Conference road game on Wednesday night.

Evan Leonard scored 17 points for UC Irvine (10-8, 2-0 in conference). Tommy Rutherford added nine points and 14 rebounds.

Cal State Fullerton fell to 5-13 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The Anteaters host UC Riverside on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Santa Ana 68, Golden West 66: Eric Watson and Justin Kirksey each scored 16 points to lead the Rustlers in Wednesday’s Orange Empire Conference home game.

Christian Anderson added 11 points and eight rebounds for Golden West (2-16, 0-6 in conference). John Stillgess had seven points and three steals.

Fullerton 70, Orange Coast 55: Myles Woods had 16 points, four assists and three steals for the host Pirates on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Jonathan Ileleji scored 15 points for Orange Coast (3-15, 0-6 in conference). Aundrel Pua had 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals off the bench. Andres Ortega chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and assists.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Vanguard 3, Saint Katherine 0: The Lions swept 25-13, 25-10, 25-6 in Wednesday’s nonconference match, the first men’s volleyball match in program history.

Kyle Anema had 12 kills for Vanguard, while Colby Cook had nine digs and Bryce Thompson racked up 32 assists.

The Lions host Springfield College of Massachusetts for two matches Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The first match will be played at Orange Coast College.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Riverside 89, Golden West 60: Abigail Guerrero’s 17 points led the Rustlers in Wednesday’s Orange Empire Conference game at home.

Mylee Madrazo and Kimberly Mancillas each scored 11 points for Golden West (3-12, 0-3 in conference).
