High School Roundup: Jeremiah Davis leads Fountain Valley boys’ basketball past CdM

Junior guard Jeremiah Davis had 24 points, and the Fountain Valley High boys’ basketball team beat visiting Corona del Mar 62-55 on Wednesday night in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

Roddie Anderson added 18 points for the Barons (11-6), who open Wave League play against Huntington Beach at Edison High on Friday at 7 p.m.

Jack Stone led CdM (14-6) with 24 points. The Sea Kings host rival Newport Harbor in their Surf League opener Friday at 7 p.m.

Newport Harbor 61, Huntington Beach 43: Levi Darrow had 17 points and six assists for the host Sailors in their final Sunset Conference crossover game Wednesday.

Ryan Miller scored 13 points for Newport Harbor (18-4).

Huntington Beach fell to 5-15.

Edison 67, Marina 52: The Chargers improved to 13-9 after winning Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game at Marina High.

Edison plays at Los Alamitos in its Surf League opener Friday at 7 p.m.

Marina (9-13) hosts Laguna Beach in a Wave League opener Friday at 7 p.m.

Los Alamitos 54, Laguna Beach 52: Nolan Naess scored 23 points for the Breakers in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover home game.

Lucas Kravitz scored 11 points for Laguna Beach (13-7), which plays at Marina in its Wave League opener on Friday at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 2, Corona del Mar 1: Sebastian Rus and Tyler Le scored the goals for the host Barons in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.

Fountain Valley (4-6-2) will open Wave League play on Friday at Huntington Beach at 5 p.m.

CdM (7-4) starts Surf League action against rival Newport Harbor on Friday at Bonita Creek Park at 4 p.m.

Edison 1, Marina 0: Armand Pigeon scored on a penalty kick in the first half for the visiting Chargers on Wednesday in a Sunset Conference crossover match.

Bennett Flory and Dylan Delaney combined on the shutout for Edison (11-3-1).

Marina is now 6-6-3.

Huntington Beach 1, Newport Harbor 1: Slater Hammer scored for the Oilers in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at home.

Huntington Beach is 5-6-3, while Newport Harbor is 8-2-1.

Ocean View 2, Garden Grove 2: The visiting Seahawks remained unbeaten in Golden West League play on Wednesday.

Los Amigos 2, Rancho Alamitos 1: Andy Millan and Brandon Alfaro each had a goal for the host Lobos on Wednesday in a Garden Grove League match.

Adrian Villicana and Francisco Lopez recorded an assist apiece for Los Amigos (5-2-3, 2-1 in league).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 46, Costa Mesa 31: Isabel Gomez scored 24 points to go with 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Lightning at home on Wednesday in a nonleague game.

Zoe Mazakas added 12 points and 17 rebounds for Sage Hill (13-5).

Costa Mesa dropped to 4-9.

Rancho Alamitos 63, Los Amigos 19: The Lobos lost their third straight game at home to open Garden Grove League play on Wednesday.

Los Amigos fell to 10-10 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Connelly 48, Pacifica Christian Orange County 36: The visiting Tritons (4-7) dropped Wednesday’s Western League opener.

WRESTLING

Fountain Valley 50, Los Alamitos 21: The visiting Barons finished the season undefeated at 3-0 in Surf League dual meets, wrapping up their ninth consecutive team league title on Wednesday.

Corona del Mar 57, Newport Harbor 15: The host Sea Kings took back the Golden Singlet from the rival Sailors in winning the Battle of the Bay match in a Wave League finale on Wednesday.

CdM (12-5-1, 2-1 in league) finishes in second place in league. Sea Kings coach Mark Alex said that his team will apply for an at-large bid into the CIF Southern Section Dual Meet championships.

Newport Harbor (9-6, 1-2) wound up in third place.
