High School Roundup: Corona del Mar boys’ soccer beats Edison

Aidan Holmes had a goal and an assist to lead the Corona del Mar High boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 win over Edison on Wednesday night in a Surf League match at Bonita Creek Park.

Will Little also scored for the Sea Kings (9-4, 2-0 in league).

Marcus Henze had the goal for the Chargers (11-5-1, 0-2), who have lost four of their last five matches.

Newport Harbor 2, Los Alamitos 1: Jack Starnes and Nate Simmons scored the goals for the host Sailors on Wednesday in a Surf League match.

Newport Harbor moved its record to 9-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Huntington Beach 3, Marina 1: Jared Rhone, Justin Fujimori and Brandon Francis each scored a goal for the host Oilers on Wednesday in a Wave League match.

Huntington Beach improved to 6-6-4 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.

Damian Campos scored on a goal assisted by Eric Church for Marina (7-7-3, 1-1).

Fountain Valley 5, Laguna Beach 1: Austin Pennella scored twice to lead the Barons in Wednesday’s Wave League match at home.

Sebastian Rus, Masin Marini and William Oakes each scored a goal for Fountain Valley (5-6-3, 1-0-1 in league).

Laguna Beach fell to 5-8-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Estancia 2, Calvary Chapel 0: Felix Solis and Marcos Arreola scored first-half goals for the Eagles on Wednesday in an Orange Coast League match at Centennial Regional Park.

Cesar Pedroza made three saves for Estancia (3-10-5, 2-1-2 in league).

Santa Ana 4, Costa Mesa 1: The Saints scored four goals in the second half of Wednesday’s Orange Coast League match at the Santa Ana Bowl.

Ethan Ervey scored a goal in the first half for Costa Mesa (3-8-6, 1-1-3 in league).

Fairmont Prep 10, Brethren Christian 0: Jake Ratzlaff, Nicholas Mikhail, Arya Marwaha and Rayhan Jessa each scored two goals for the host Huskies on Wednesday in an Express League match at Savanna High.

Brethren Christian dropped to 0-7-1 overall and 0-5 in the league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 56, Los Alamitos 55: Levi Darrow hit the game-winning three-pointer with four seconds left to lift the Sailors in Wednesday’s Surf League game at home.

Darrow scored 15 points for the Sailors (20-4, 2-0 in league). Ryan Miller had a team-high 17 points, while Robbie Spooner added 14 points.

Newport Harbor plays at Edison on Friday at 7 p.m., and the winner takes over outright first place halfway through league.

Edison 73, Corona del Mar 71: Trey Wilborn had 23 points for the visiting Chargers in Wednesday’s Surf League game.

Bradley Luna added 17 points for Edison (15-9, 2-0 in league), which hosts Newport Harbor in a first-place showdown Friday at 7 p.m.

Jack Stone scored a game-high 27 points for CdM (15-8, 0-2), which plays at Los Alamitos on Friday at 7 p.m.

Costa Mesa 58, Santa Ana 48: Christian Dasca scored 19 points for the Mustangs in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League road game.

Alec Terry scored 15 points for Costa Mesa (8-15, 3-2 in league), and Gio Quero chipped in 11 points.

The Mustangs host Calvary Chapel on Friday at 7 p.m.

Marina 72, Huntington Beach 68: The Vikings improved to 10-14 overall and 1-1 in the Wave League with Wednesday’s road win.

Huntington Beach is 5-18 and 0-2.

Estancia 65, Calvary Chapel 47: The first-place Eagles improved to 5-0 in the Orange Coast League with Wednesday’s road win.

Estancia is 20-3 overall.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pacifica Christian Orange County 4, Temecula Rancho Christian 0: Brooklyn Motske and Leila Bahnsen each scored twice for the Tritons in Wednesday’s San Joaquin League match at Vanguard University.

Motske had two assists for Pacifica Christian (8-3, 2-2 in league), and Buze Harrison had one assist.

Goalkeeper Jo Snider recorded six saves for the Tritons, who host rival Sage Hill on Friday at 3 p.m. at Vanguard.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fairmont Prep 64, Sage Hill 37: Zoe Mazakas had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the visiting Lightning on Wednesday in a San Joaquin League game.

Sage Hill is now 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the league.
