High School Roundup: Huntington Beach girls’ basketball repeats as Surf League champion

Andie Payne finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, leading the Huntington Beach High girls’ basketball team to the outright Surf League title with Thursday night’s 68-32 win at Los Alamitos.

Huntington Beach (20-5, 5-0 in league) repeated as the Surf League champion.

Alyssa Real had 15 points for the Oilers. Madeline Krause added 10 points.

Fountain Valley 60, Marina 48: Audrey Tengan had a career-high 25 points for the visiting Barons, who clinched the outright Wave League title on Thursday.

Margaret Tengan added 16 points for Fountain Valley (16-11, 5-0 in league). Caitlin Okawa had 10 points and Kat Luu added seven points.

Marina (7-19, 3-2), which was the defending Wave League champion, can clinch second place and a CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoff spot with a win at Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

Newport Harbor 41, Laguna Beach 37: Cydney Jover and Genevieve Perry each scored 11 points to lead the Sailors on Thursday in a Wave League game at home.

Chloe Swanson added nine points and 12 rebounds for Newport Harbor (12-14, 2-3 in league). Willa Rath had eight points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Emma Coatsworth chipped in with two points, 13 rebounds and two steals.

Laguna Beach dropped to 10-17 overall and 0-5 in league play.

Saddleback 62, Costa Mesa 33: The Mustangs dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-5 in the Orange Coast League following Thursday’s game at home.

Costa Mesa has road games against Santa Ana and rival Estancia to close out the regular season.

Orange 43, Estancia 35: The host Eagles fell to 3-23 overall and 1-7 in the Orange Coast League on Thursday.

Estancia plays at Calvary Chapel on Monday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Huntington Beach 12, Edison 11: Senior center Emily Tucker had eight goals as the Oilers clinched the outright Wave League title on Thursday at Westminster High.

Lizzie Lovat, Morgan O’Connell, Sierra Cavano and Jericho Callendar also scored for Huntington Beach (12-12, 5-0 in league), with Cavano adding five assists.

Goalkeeper Marilyn Rodriguez made six saves for the Oilers with normal starter Elaina Davey out sick, coach Jacob Moore said.

Edison is now 12-10 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Laguna Beach 18, San Clemente 4: Nicole Struss and Emma Lineback each scored three goals for the Breakers in the second round of the Irvine Southern California Championships on Thursday at Irvine’s Woollett Aquatics Center.

Grace Houlahan, Emma Singer and Molly Renner each added two goals for top-seeded Laguna Beach (22-1), which beat Long Beach Poly 21-2 in the first round. Struss and Ella Baumgardner each scored three goals.

Laguna Beach plays either Carlsbad or Los Alamitos in a quarterfinal Friday at 6 p.m. at Woollett.

Newport Harbor 11, Redondo Union 6: The Sailors won the second-round match of the Irvine Southern California Championships on Thursday at Corona del Mar High.

Newport Harbor (18-5), which also beat Whittier La Serna 19-6 in the first round, plays either Mater Dei or Agoura in a tournament quarterfinal Friday at 5 p.m. at Woollett Aquatics Center.

Estancia 15, Santa Ana 3: Sydni White scored six goals for the Eagles in Thursday’s Orange Coast League match at Costa Mesa High.

Gidget Brestel and Cassie Corrigan each scored three goals for Estancia (16-6, 3-0 in league).

Costa Mesa 18, Orange 0: Taiuta Uiagalelei and Kira Anderson scored six goals for the Mustangs in Thursday’s Orange Coast League match at home.

Costa Mesa improved to 19-6 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Marina 12, Fountain Valley 3: Maddie Clobes, Taylor Lambert and Lana Kardos each scored three goals for the Vikings in Thursday’s Wave League match at Corona del Mar High.

Goalkeeper Emma Marsh made 13 saves for Marina (16-10, 2-3 in league).

Victoria Wilcox, Grayce Sakamoto and Jaelyn Lebaron each scored for Fountain Valley (6-19, 0-5).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Marina 2, Fountain Valley 1 (OT): Kaitlyn Paculba had the golden goal for the Wave League champion Vikings in Thursday’s match at home.

The Vikings are now 8-7-3 overall and 5-0 in the league.

Fountain Valley fell to 9-11-3 and 0-4-1.

Los Alamitos 2, Huntington Beach 1: Reese Woodson scored for the visiting Oilers in Thursday’s Surf League match.

Summer Stewart had the assist for Huntington Beach (10-8-6, 2-3 in league).
