College Roundup: Orange Coast baseball beats Palomar for first victory

David Morgan was three for four with two runs scored, and the Orange Coast College baseball team beat Palomar 11-2 in a nonconference home game Tuesday, giving new head coach Nate Jackson his first career win.

Garret Barto had two hits including a home run, and Logan Jackson also had two hits for the Pirates (1-2). Andrew Cromwell was three for five with two runs batted in.

OCC starter Michael Rhylick pitched six shutout innings before reliever Alex Shadid (1-0), a Corona del Mar High product, picked up the win.

Orange Coast starts off a three-game series at Cuesta College on Thursday at 2 p.m.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Golden West 3, Grossmont 1: The Rustlers came away with a 25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14 win on Tuesday in a nonconference match at home.

Golden West (1-1) plays host to Long Beach City College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

College of the Desert 7, Orange Coast 2: The Pirates fell to 1-1 after Tuesday’s nonconference road loss.
