College Roundup: UC Irvine baseball beats Fresno State for first win

Adrian Damla was four for four with two runs batted in for the UC Irvine baseball team in Saturday’s 12-6 nonconference win at Fresno State.

Riley Kasper had three hits, including a three-run home run, for the Anteaters (1-1). Jacob Castro also had three hits and three RBIs.

UC Irvine has the rubber match of its series at Fresno State on Sunday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Westmont 77, Vanguard 75: Estefania Giner had 20 points for the Lions in Saturday’s Golden State Athletic Conference home game.

Tristen Rollon added 18 points for Vanguard (19-4, 11-3 in conference).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Westmont 74, Vanguard 69: James Moore had 17 points for the Lions in Saturday’s Golden State Athletic Conference home game.

Isaiah Gentry scored 15 points for Vanguard (13-13, 6-8 in conference).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC San Diego 3, UC Irvine 2: Joel Schneidmiller had 21 kills for the Anteaters in a 25-20, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-12 Big West Conference-opening loss Saturday.

UC Irvine is 7-5 overall.

BASEBALL

Orange Coast 8, College of the Desert 3: David Morgan was two for two with a home run for the Pirates in Saturday’s nonconference road game.

Jared Schatz was three for five with a double and two runs batted in for Orange Coast (4-6). Chase Hanson had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.

Golden West 15, Bakersfield 5: Justin Simpson was four for five with three runs scored for the Rustlers in Saturday’s nonconference home game.

Seth Nelson had a pair of doubles for Golden West (7-7).

SOFTBALL

Golden West 12, Compton 0 (five innings): Lali Rios pitched five shutout innings for the Rustlers in the first game of Saturday’s nonconference doubleheader.

Kaylee Hammond had three runs batted in for Golden West.

Golden West 19, Compton 2 (five innings): Madalyn Burton was three for three with a double, a triple and four runs batted in for the Rustlers in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Kennedy Burton also had four RBIs for Golden West (5-3).

Vanguard 2, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 0: The Lions won the first game of Saturday’s nonconference doubleheader on the road.

Vanguard 12, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1: Tatiana Tabizon, Emily Howard and Ariana Huffman all had two hits for the Lions (11-3) in the second game of Saturday’s nonconference doubleheader.

Pitcher Courtney Thornhill improved to 6-1, allowing one run in five innings for the Lions.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

USC 9, UC Irvine 6: Calysa Toledo and Piper Smith each scored two goals for the Anteaters in Saturday’s nonconfeence road match.

No. 6 UC Irvine is 9-4 overall.
