High School Roundup: Huntington Beach softball no-hits Foothill

Devyn Greer and Kayla Hayashi combined on a no-hitter, and the Huntington Beach High softball team defeated visiting Foothill 13-0 in five innings on Thursday night in a nonleague game.

Shelbi Ortiz went two for three with a double, a triple and three runs batted in for Huntington Beach (2-0). Malia Cockrell added two doubles.

Grace Uribe, Mikayla Carman and Greer also had two hits apiece.

Greer struck out 12 while allowing just one walk in the circle.

BASEBALL

Huntington Beach 6, Temecula Valley 3: The visiting Oilers scored the first six runs on Thursday in a Frank Lerner Division opener of the Newport Elks Tournament.

Shane Stafford had two hits and a run batted in for Huntington Beach (2-0), which has a home tournament against Cerritos Gahr on Saturday at noon. Thomas Babineau struck out four in four innings.

Corona del Mar 9, Kennedy 1: Nick Rottler had a grand slam for the Sea Kings on Thursday in a Newport Elks Tournament Foothill Division opener at home.

Keller Strauss and Kieran Sidebotham also hit home runs for CdM (2-1), which plays a tournament game at Paramount on Saturday at 11 a.m. Nico DiFerdinando went three for four at the plate.

Matt Wilks picked up his first win on the mound. Jennings Torgelson and DiFerdinando combined for three scoreless innings of relief.

Laguna Beach 10, Brea Olinda 0: Jackson Yelland struck out four over six shutout innings for the Breakers on Thursday in a Newport Elks Tournament Costa Mesa Division opener on the road.

Aidan Booth had two hits and three runs batted in for Laguna Beach (3-0), which resumes tournament play at home against Crean Lutheran on Friday at 2 p.m. Jeremy Hayes and Charlie Pillsbury each drove in two runs, and Aiden Kidd had two hits.

Newport Harbor 8, Whittier La Serna 0: Jack Bibb picked up the win on the mound for the Sailors on Thursday in their first Foothill Division game of the Newport Elks Tournament.

Newport Harbor (1-2) hosts Tesoro in the tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Anaheim 7, Los Amigos 2: Isaac Vega had two hits in the visiting Lobos’ Orange County Division opener of the Newport Elks Tournament on Thursday.

Los Amigos (0-3) hosts Whittier Pioneer in the tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Estancia 4, La Quinta 2: The Eagles won their Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division opener at home Thursday.

Estancia (2-0) travels to play Savanna in the tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Garden Grove 4, Costa Mesa 1: The visiting Mustangs dropped their first game in the Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division on Thursday.

Costa Mesa (0-1) hosts Sunny Hills in the tournament on Friday at 3 p.m.

Yorba Linda 6, Edison 1: The Chargers (2-1) lost their Loara Tournament opener at Glover Stadium on Thursday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Edison 20, San Juan Hills 6: The host Chargers improved to 2-0 following Thursday’s nonleague match.

Mater Dei 12, Newport Harbor 7: The visiting Sailors fell to 1-1 after Thursday’s nonleague game.
