High School Roundup: Fountain Valley wrestling sends seven to second day of CIF Masters Meet

Fountain Valley High had all seven of its qualifying wrestlers advance to the second day of the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet on Friday at Sonora High.

Sean Solis (113 pounds), Zach Parker (132), TJ McDonnell (138), Luis Ramirez (145), Max Wilner (160) and Matthew Fee (220) are into the quarterfinals.

Mikey Folch (120) is also alive in the consolation bracket for the Barons.

Fountain Valley is in fourth place with 42 points going into Saturday’s action. Bellflower St. John Bosco is first with 64.5 points, followed by Servite (50.5 points) and Covina Northview (47 points).

Corona del Mar’s Emilio Franco (220) also advanced to the quarterfinals, going 2-0 with a pin and a decision.

Estancia’s Jacob Potts (195) kept his tournament going by beating Mission Viejo’s Stone Dumas 2-1 in overtime in the second round of consolation.

Marina’s Mike McCoy (126) went 1-2. He was eliminated by Orange Lutheran’s Dominic Lobo in a 2-0 decision in the second round of consolation.

BASEBALL

Laguna Beach 12, Crean Lutheran 2: Eric Silva had three hits for the host Breakers in Friday’s Newport Elks Tournament Costa Mesa Division game.

Aidan Booth and Jeremy Hayes each had two hits for the Breakers (4-0). Aiden Kidd got the win, striking out 10 in five innings.

Marina 4, El Modena 1: Chad Lux threw a complete game for the Vikings in their Loara Tournament game Friday at home.

Lux improved to 2-0 for Marina, allowing five hits and striking out one. Trevor Lanksbury hit a three-run home run for the Vikings (2-2).

Fountain Valley 2, West Ranch 0: Jake Brooks got the win for the Barons after throwing six shutout innings in Friday’s Loara Tournament opener at Glover Stadium.

Brooks allowed one hit, striking out eight and walking one.

Tito Sanchez had three hits for the Barons (3-0), including a double and a triple. Cole Wentz had a run-scoring single.

Sunny Hills 9, Costa Mesa 2: Matthew Anderson had a pair of hits for the Mustangs in Friday’s Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game at home.

Costa Mesa fell to 0-2 in the tournament.

Tesoro 5, Newport Harbor 3: The host Sailors dropped to 1-3 overall after Friday’s Newport Elks Tournament Foothill Division game.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Tesoro 15, Edison 3: Matt LaFerriere had 14 saves for the host Chargers on Friday in a nonleague match.

Halen Dresser, Ben Booth and Trevor Tripp each had one goal for Edison (1-1).
