High School Roundup: Corona del Mar boys’ volleyball finishes second at Best of the West tournament

The Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team reached the final of the Best of the West tournament Saturday before falling 25-22, 25-11 to Manhattan Beach Mira Costa at Epic Volleyball Club in Poway.

Libero Jaden Glenn and setter Bryce Dvorak were all-tournament team selections for CdM (13-2).

The Sea Kings beat San Jose Bellarmine Prep 25-14, 25-23 in the round of 16. They topped Mater Dei in the quarterfinals 25-20, 25-12 and beat Los Angeles Loyola 24-26, 25-22, 16-14 in the semifinals.

Huntington Beach finished tied for third. The Oilers beat Newport Harbor 25-21, 25-21 in the quarterfinals before losing 25-23, 25-18 to Mira Costa in the semifinals.

BASEBALL

Pacifica 7, Ocean View 2: Danny Minney and Kai Marden each had two hits for the Seahawks in the first game of Saturday’s nonleague road doubleheader.

Caleb Hohman had a double for Ocean View (4-6-1).

Ocean View 4, Pacifica 2: Owen Sideris pitched five innings for the win Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader.

Kai Marden had the save and Shane Hoodman had three hits for Ocean View.

Newport Harbor 2, Kennedy 0: The Sailors (3-6-1) blanked the Fighting Irish in the first game of Saturday’s nonleague road doubleheader.

Kennedy 1, Newport Harbor 0: The host Fighting Irish salvaged a sweep of Saturday’s doubleheader.

SOFTBALL

Rosary 8, Corona del Mar 0: Makena Tomlinson had a pair of hits for the Sea Kings (2-3) at Saturday’s Savanna Showcase game at Troy High.

Troy 10, Corona del Mar 3: Trasura Alexander was two for two with a run scored in Saturday’s Savanna Showcase game.

Makena Tomlinson had three runs batted in.
