High School Roundup: Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo tops Corona del Mar

Molly Renner scored four goals as the Laguna Beach High School girls’ water polo team beat Corona del Mar 19-8 on Wednesday in a Surf League home match.

Nicole Struss added three goals for the Breakers (3-0, 3-0 in league). Lela McCarroll, Charlotte Riches and Emma Lineback all scored twice, and goalkeeper Lauren Schneider made nine saves.

Grace Myers paced Corona del Mar (0-3, 0-3) with five goals.

Laguna Beach plays at JSerra on Friday at 6:15 p.m. in a nonleague match, while CdM hosts Riverside King on Friday at 7 p.m.

Costa Mesa 8, JSerra 7: Sophomore goalkeeper Dharma Andreas made a career-high 18 saves as the Mustangs won their nonleague season opener Wednesday at Estancia High.

Freshman Addie Juelfs led Costa Mesa with four goals, while senior Hanna Jackson scored twice.

Estancia 9, Pacifica 4: The Eagles are now 2-1 after Wednesday’s nonleague victory at home.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Laguna Beach 15, Corona del Mar 8: William Kelly scored seven goals for the Breakers in Wednesday’s Surf League match at Laguna Beach High.

Aidan McDennon and Michael Pinto both scored twice for Laguna Beach (1-2 overall, 1-2 in league).

Dylan Hamm scored five goals for Corona del Mar (1-2, 0-2).

Costa Mesa 18, Servite 14: Anderson Todd scored seven goals to pace the Mustangs in Wednesday’s nonleague season opener on the road.

Gavin Fisher added five goals, and goalkeeper Connor Beneville made 14 saves.

Estancia 14, Pacifica 13: The Eagles improved to 4-0 after winning Wednesday’s nonleague match.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 10, Portola 8: Logan Friedman, Max Krykunenko and Niels Hoffmann each won two singles sets for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Corona del Mar High.

Jack Cross and Scott Thompson swept in doubles for CdM (3-0).

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Costa Mesa 19, Orange 40: Senior Jackson Wrubel ran 18 minutes 10.2 seconds to earn the individual win, as the visiting Mustangs had the top three finishers in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League dual meet.

Senior Raymond Tran-Nguyen (second 18:29.4) and junior Edward Rodriguez (third, 18:34.3) were next to finish for Costa Mesa (2-2).

Estancia vs. Calvary Chapel: Matthew Radmilovich paced the field with a time of 15:55.2 for visiting Calvary Chapel Wednesday in an Orange Coast League dual meet.

Andres Aguirre led Estancia’s runners, placing third with a time of 19:29.3. A team must have five runners to produce a team score. Estancia had three boys run in the race.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Costa Mesa 17, Orange 40: Senior Jaqueline Rodriguez ran 20:41.0 to win the race and lead the visiting Mustangs to victory in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League dual meet.

Angeles Alatorre (second, 21:40.3), Daisy Carrillo (third, 21:59.9), Abigail Constantino (24:06.0) and Brianna Tapia (24:10.0) formed the scoring quintet for the Mustangs.

Costa Mesa (4-0) will look to go undefeated in league dual meets when it hosts Estancia on March 17.

Calvary Chapel 22, Estancia 33: Hannah Radmilovich won the race in 20:29.7 to lead visiting Calvary Chapel in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League dual meet.

Calvary Chapel had the top three finishers in the contest, a group that also included Cynthia Navarro (21:30.1) and Anna Biggins (21:50.5).

Maria Promotor (22:29.5), Guadalupe Olivares (22:32.9) and Valerie Madrid (22:33.7) formed a pack that claimed the fourth through sixth positions for Estancia (1-2).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Edison 4, Westminster 0: Trenton Bellinger scored two goals to lead the visiting Chargers in Wednesday’s nonleague match.

Riley Holmes and Luke Slavik each had a goal for Edison (1-1).

Bennett Flory and Michael Timmering had a combined four saves between them to preserve the shutout.
