High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian Orange County girls’ basketball snaps two-game losing streak

Freshman Annika Jiwani had a game-high 27 points to lead the Pacifica Christian Orange County High School girls’ basketball team to a 62-23 victory over Downey Calvary Chapel on Thursday in a nonleague game at home.

Jiwani made seven three-pointers in the contest for the Tritons (2-2). Freshman Lauryn Ham scored 18 points, and sophomore Charis Wondercheck added 14 points.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Pacifica Christian 3, St. Margaret’s 1: Junior opposite Knox Vail had 16 kills with just two hitting errors to lead the visiting Tritons to an 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 victory in Thursday’s nonleague match.

SOFTBALL

Capistrano Valley 10, Newport Harbor 3: Lindsey Blanchfield went three for four with two runs batted in for the Sailors on the road Thursday in a nonleague game.

Ava Nolan also had two hits, including a double, in three times up for Newport Harbor (4-2).

Quinn Southerland had three hits to lead the Capistrano Valley offense.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 6, Laguna Beach 0: Logan Stern scored twice for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.

Avery Doherty, Brea Sofferman, Maddie Rosen and Emily Chanawatr also scored for CdM (4-2-2). Assists went to Rosen, Payton Vovan and Erin Galvin. Goalkeeper Sydney Walls made four saves to preserve the shutout.

Laguna Beach fell to 1-1.

CdM plays at rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay match on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor 2, Edison 0: Anto Russo and Brielle Benedict scored for the Sailors in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Edison High.

Stella Gaffney had an assist for Newport Harbor (4-1-1), and goalkeeper Jessica Gardner made one save.

Edison is now 2-3-2.

Marina 1, Los Alamitos 0: Kaitlyn Paculba’s late goal lifted the Vikings in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match on the road.

Eve Frousiakis had the assist for Marina (3-1-2).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Ocean View 10, Garden Grove 8: The Seahawks moved into outright first place in the Golden West League after Thursday’s victory.

Parker Walpole and Nick Chumacero combined to win five of six singles sets for Ocean View (4-0 in league). The doubles teams of Andrew Oldag and Lucas Salama, as well as Michael Dechene and Josh Kim, both won multiple sets.

Ocean View plays at Westminster on April 15.

Estancia 6, Santa Ana 6 (Estancia wins 35-25 on games): The Eagles edged out a win in their Orange Coast League opener Thursday at home.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Estancia 18, Santa Ana 0: The Eagles improved to 3-0 in the Orange Coast League after winning Thursday’s home match.

Estancia is 4-1 overall.
