High School Roundup: Edison boys’ soccer beats CdM in OT in Surf League opener

Trenton Bellinger scored in the first overtime period to lead the Edison High School boys’ soccer team to a 3-2 overtime victory over Corona del Mar in a Surf League match on Monday.

Luke Slavik and Phineas Roghair also scored for Edison (7-2, 1-0 in league).

Jonathan Cheng and Dean Shaw scored goals for CdM (2-6-3, 0-1). Dallas Roberts and Hassan Selim each had an assist.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Foothill 65, Corona del Mar 44: Scott Truninger scored 13 points for the Sea Kings in Monday’s nonleague home game at CdM.

Mathys Djomby-Enyawe scored eight points for the Sea Kings (2-1), while Dylan Rogers and Asher Hamilton each scored seven points.

CdM hosts Tesoro on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 56, Rancho Alamitos 34: Willa Rath had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Sailors on Monday in a nonleague game at home.

Chase Dionio had 10 points and six assists, and Cydney Jover added 12 points for Newport Harbor (3-0).

Estancia 49, Santa Ana Valley 26: Alexis Orellana had a team-high 10 points to lead the Eagles on Monday in a nonleague game at home.

Adriela Sandoval, Alina Sizikova and Lizbeth Espinoza-Sanchez scored six points apiece for Estancia (1-3).

BASEBALL

Fountain Valley 7, Edison 3: Blake Wentz got the win for the Barons in Monday’s nonleague game at Fountain Valley High.

Wentz allowed two earned runs and five hits in four innings, striking out three and walking one. He also went three for three at the plate with a solo home run and a double for Fountain Valley (7-3).

Tim Grack and Ryder Brooks had two hits each for the Barons.

Cade Liefer was four for four with a run batted in for Edison (5-4).

Laguna Beach 4, Tustin 0: Nick Bonn threw a complete-game shutout to lead Laguna Beach in Monday’s nonleague home game.

Bonn allowed three hits and struck out eight batters while walking none.

Max Burchi had two hits for Laguna Beach (5-3), which has won three straight games.

Corona del Mar 5, Tesoro 2: Jack Bolt pitched six shutout innings for the Sea Kings in Monday’s Newport Elks Tournament game.

Jack Salmon hit a home run for CdM (5-2).

SOFTBALL

Edison 5, Ocean View 2: Kaitlyn Reynolds had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the host Chargers in a nonleague game on Monday.

Jenna Gorden also had two hits and a run batted in for Edison (3-4).

Ari Hencke and Kaitlyn Knobbe each had an RBI for Ocean View (3-6).

Marina 11, Fountain Valley 3: Taylor Lane had a home run and four runs batted in to lead the host Vikings on Monday in a nonleague game.

Makayla Mathis had two hits and two runs scored, and Anaya Togia added two hits and drove in two runs for Marina (7-1). Zoe King also had two runs batted in.

Fountain Valley dropped to 2-7 overall.
