The Fountain Valley High School girls’ tennis team beat Laguna Beach 14-4 at home on Thursday, clinching the outright Wave League title.

It’s the first league title for the Barons since 1991, coach Harshul Patel said.

Patel, in his 12th year coaching at Fountain Valley, said his first league championship was sweet. The Barons nearly won the Sunset League in 2016, but finished second after losing their last two matches to Newport Harbor and Los Alamitos.

“It’s been a long journey for me and our team,” Patel said in a text message.

The Barons (13-4, 5-1 in league) swept in doubles against second-place Laguna Beach (9-5, 4-2) in both teams’ regular-season finale. The teams of Kaylee Tran and Emily Tran, Christy Chau and Paige Ngo, as well as Iris Chau and Skylar Ngo, swept all of their matches.
