High School Roundup: Costa Mesa girls’ volleyball extends winning streak

Lorelei Hobbis had 17 kills, two blocks and two aces to lead the Costa Mesa High School girls’ volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 victory over Santa Ana at home in an Orange Coast League match on Tuesday evening.

Hana Batlik added seven kills, two aces and one block for the Mustangs, who have won four in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.

Costa Mesa (15-4, 6-1) will have a chance to jump into a tie for first place in the league when it travels to take on Calvary Chapel (10-5, 7-0) on Thursday.

Ocean View 3, Godinez 0: Jade Auger had four kills, seven aces and eight digs to lead the host Seahawks to a straight-sets win by a count of 25-22, 25-5, 25-10 in a Golden West League match on Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Conklin and Emma Santy had four kills apiece, and Brooke Abascal added six aces and three kills. Ava Arce contributed 27 digs, while Natalia Christensen dished out 12 assists.

Ocean View (6-8, 4-3) remains at home to face Westminster (3-10, 1-6) on Thursday.

Newport Harbor 3, Marina 1: Quinn Perry had 12 kills to lead the host Sailors to a 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22 win over the Vikings on Tuesday in a Wave League match.

Emma Fults had 10 kills, Anne O’Brien added seven kills, and Emma Coatsworth chipped in with six kills.

Newport Harbor (17-6, 4-0) clinched one of the league’s two automatic playoff berths with the win.

Marina dropped to 13-13 overall and 1-3 in league.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Estancia 302, Orange 305: The host Eagles narrowly defeated the Panthers on Tuesday in an Orange Coast League match.

Estancia is now 6-5 overall and 5-4 in league.

Westminster 248, Costa Mesa 304: Sydney Ngo carded a two-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors for the Mustangs on Tuesday in an Orange Coast League match on the Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Costa Mesa, which dropped to 8-3 overall and in league, will conclude its regular season against Katella at Brea Creek on Monday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Newport Harbor 9, Fountain Valley 9 (Newport Harbor wins 85-84 on games): Chloe Bennett, Haley Dodman and Sophie Harlan each won twice in singles for the Sailors in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Fountain Valley High.

Newport Harbor (5-6) plays at Huntington Beach in a Surf League opener on Thursday.

Katelyn Nguyen swept in singles for Fountain Valley (4-7), which opens Wave League competition when it hosts Edison on Thursday.

Los Alamitos 10, Laguna Beach 8: Sarah MacCallum and Jessica MacCallum each swept in singles for the Breakers in Tuesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Laguna Beach High.

Camille Deckey and Zoey Cutter won a doubles set for Laguna Beach (3-4), which opens Wave League play with a road match at Marina on Thursday.

Calvary Chapel 13, Estancia 5: Tara Schroeder won twice in singles for the Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League match on the road.

Tara Spas and Sofia Kehoe swept in doubles for the Eagles (6-3, 2-2 in league). Spas and Kehoe are now 29-1 this season.

Estancia hosts Orange on Thursday.
