High School Roundup: CdM girls’ basketball opens host tournament with win

Haley Esquino had a team-high 19 points to lead the Corona del Mar High School girls’ basketball team to a 59-37 win over Segerstrom on Monday to kick off the CdM Tip-off Tournament.

Makena Tomlinson added 15 points for the Sea Kings, and Megan Martodam scored 10 points in the contest. Julia Mork and Dorothy Schwenck each contributed five points for CdM.

Sage Hill 67, Palos Verdes 31: Kat Righeimer had 21 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Lightning in a CdM Tip-off Tournament game on Monday.

Zoie Lamkin provided 14 points, 13 rebounds and three steals for Sage Hill (4-1). Isabel Gomez had 12 points and seven assists, Emily Eadie added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kiana Hosseinzadeh chipped in with six points and two steals.

Newport Harbor 54, Tustin 39: Chase Dionio had a team-high 18 points to go with five steals and four assists for the Sailors in the CdM Tip-off Tournament on Monday.

Kate Bland added 12 points, converting on 10 of 12 free-throw attempts for Newport Harbor (3-0). Cydney Jover scored eight points, and Emma Fults had five points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Santiago 51, Edison 16: The Chargers took their third straight loss on Monday, dropping to 1-3 overall.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 61, El Monte 32: James De La O and Jaedon Hose-Shea each scored 11 points for the Eagles in the San Gabriel Tournament game Monday.

The Eagles (2-0) play La Puente in the tournament Tuesday.

Newport Harbor 37, Laguna Hills 30: The Sailors won their season opener in the Foothill Feast Week tournament Monday.

Marina 65, Kennedy 50: Eric Hodgkins scored 22 points for the Vikings in their Foothill Feast Week tournament game Monday.

Bodhi Armstrong added 17 points for Marina (4-2).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Portola 3, Laguna Beach 1: Yasser Mallisho, Shaya Sharifi and Ryan Truong scored a goal apiece for the host Bulldogs on Monday in a nonleague game.

Laguna Beach dropped to 0-2 overall.
